In 2022, the top 10 highest vehicle theft areas in Western Australia were identified with 3,220 vehicles stolen, and it serves as a warning for vehicle owners to be extra cautious when parking their assets in these cities.
Let’s take a closer look at each of these districts, what they’re known for, and why they are unfortunately notorious for vehicle theft.
The Mirrabooka district is located in the northern suburbs of Perth with 352 vehicles stolen in 2022.
Mirrabooka has a population of more than 50,000 and is known for its multicultural community and vibrant shopping centre with Mirrabooka Square being one of the largest.
It is also home to a diverse range of people from all over the world, including migrants, refugees, and indigenous Australians.
Cannington is a district located south of Perth with 351 vehicles stolen in 2022. It has a population of more than 55,000 and is known for its shopping centres and entertainment precincts which include the Westfield Carousel Shopping Centre, one of the largest in Western Australia.
Cannington District is also home to the Cannington Greyhound Racing Track and Cannington Raceway, a motorsports venue.
Located in the eastern suburbs of Perth, the Midland district is known for its historical landmarks, beautiful scenery, and wildlife. Midland has a population of more than 49,000 with 281 vehicles stolen in 2022.
Midland District is home to historic buildings and several nature reserves, including the stunning John Forrest National Park, which is famous for its waterfalls, bushwalking trails, and wildlife spotting opportunities.
Mandurah is a coastal city located south of Perth with 268 vehicles stolen in 2022. Mandurah has a population of more than 90,000 and is known for its beautiful beaches, waterways, and tourist attractions.
Mandurah District is a popular holiday destination for locals and tourists and is known for its canal and marina developments, including the Mandurah Ocean Marina and Mandurah Marina.
The Kimberley district is a large and sparsely populated region in Western Australia with 264 vehicles stolen in 2022. Kimberley is home to a number of indigenous communities, and there are many opportunities for cultural tours and experiences.
Kimberley District has a population of more than 38,000 and is known for several national parks, including the Purnululu National Park, which is famous for its unique rock formations known as the Bungle Bungle Range.
Armadale is a district located southeast of Perth. It has a population of more than 100,000 with 256 vehicles stolen in 2022.
Armadale District is home to several nature reserves, including the stunning Araluen Botanic Park, which is famous for its beautiful gardens, water features, and outdoor sculptures, also to the Armadale Shopping City, Serpentine Falls, and the Araluen Botanic Park.
Fremantle is a port city located southwest of Perth with 253 vehicles stolen in 2022. It has a population of 30,000 and it is known for its historic architecture, vibrant arts scene, and bustling markets.
Fremantle District is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, with a wide range of cafes, restaurants, and bars. It is known for its heritage buildings, including the Fremantle Prison and the Fremantle Markets.
The Pilbara district is a vast region in Western Australia with 240 vehicles stolen in 2022. It has a population of more than 58,000 and is home to several national parks, including the Karijini National Park, which is famous for its deep gorges, waterfalls, and swimming holes.
Pilbara is also home to a number of mining operations and is an important contributor to the Australian economy.
Joondalup is a district located north of Perth with 221 vehicles stolen in 2022. It has a population of more than 160,000 and is a popular destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts, with a wide range of activities, including hiking, cycling, and water sports.
Joondalup is also home to the Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre, Lake Joondalup Nature Reserve and the Yellagonga Regional Park.
Perth is the capital city of Western Australia and is located on the banks of the Swan River. It has a population of more than 2.5M with 198 vehicles stolen in 2022.
Perth District is known for its beautiful beaches, parks, gardens, and attractions including Kings Park, Botanic Garden, the Perth Zoo, the Perth Mint, and the Bell Tower. It has a thriving food and wine culture, with many restaurants, cafes, and bars offering a range of local and international cuisine.
While Western Australia offers many beautiful and exciting places to explore, it’s important to be aware of the high vehicle theft rates in certain areas.
